Nite of Hope co-chairs Debi Rumley and Lori Ishikawa are working with a wonderful team of volunteers to bring you a night of inspiration and fun. In September 2001, Debi and Lori, along with two other friends, ran in the CIBC Run for the Cure. The words they heard Virginia Greene (former Chair of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, BC Chapter) speak that day would become a reality for Debi just weeks later. The words were “In the next year, many of you will be touched by breast cancer… either you or someone you know will be faced with a diagnosis.”

Before the end of the year Debi was diagnosed with breast cancer and would begin a journey through surgery and recovery.

In April 2002 Debi attended Nite of Hope in Richmond. Just weeks before, Debi had undergone breast cancer surgery at Peace Arch Hospital. This was an evening that Debi would never forget. Judy Caldwell, the founder of the BC and Yukon Chapter of Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, gave a very emotional and moving speech of her own journey through breast cancer and how women needed to stand together and fight this dise\ase.

Debi knew immediately this was an event that every community would benefit from. Four years later the dream is becoming a reality. Garden of Hope is coming to White Rock and we plan to not only raise money, but also well-needed awareness for the women of our community.
